Kikkeri Family Reunion

Family get together event held on June 10th,2012 was a great event. It was nice to see most of the family members turning up for the function and making it happen. A sincere thanks to all the family members for attending the event and making it a grand success.

The function started with Ganapati Pooja performed by Mohan. After seeking blessings from Lord Ganesha and the family deity Sri Lakshminarasimha Swamy, the event was kicked off with a beautiful invocation song "Hari Baaro" sung by Ranjini Mohan.

A family memento about this special event was released.

This was followed by an introduction of each family. Dr.V.Prakash, Kiran and Vaibhav had come up with a beautiful presentation. The slides mostly had pictures from yesteryears and it was fun trying to identify all the cousins when they were very young. There were quite a few funny moments which kept the audience in splits.

The elders in each family were also felicitated as and when their family was introduced to the audience.

When the family introduction was happening, many of us were amused to learn many things about our cousins, their respective spouses and children. I have mentioned some of them below :
  • Jamuna Prakash is a trained Kathak dancer and classical singer.
  • Ranjini is doing her correspondence MS from BITS Pilani sponsored by SAP Labs.
  • Pratap has done an MBA in IIMB.  He started his own company in 2007 called "iFocus Systec".
  • Soujanya is the first person from the family to be doing MBBS in Ayurvedic. She also got an appreciation letter from President Pratibha Patil.
  • Aravinda is pursuing his Phd from IISc.
  • Mohan is a magician in training and conducts magic shows for children.
  • Pranav Kikkeri is a child prodigy and has won numerous awards in classical singing in the US. His sister Madhuvanthi is a trained bharatanatyam dancer and had her arangetram last year in the US.
  • Vivek is a guitarist and has his own band called Velvet Rose.
  • Last but not the least, Thamanna single handedly converted 9 acres of dry land in Kollegal with a pH of 9 (highly alkaline) into fertile land by use of compost. It is quite an achievement. I still remember him attending computer classes at the age of 80 and holding discussions about various topics like computers, processors, different languages etc. His enthusiasm kind of rubbed on us and I hope we have the same enthusiasm as his when we become octogenarians.

Later, the most important moment happened. Dr Prakash and Prof Jamuna Prakash were felicitated by Murthy and his wife Lakshmi. Sathyavathy doddamma blessed the couple and Prakash spoke about his childhood and his family.

After the felicitation event, an entertainment program was organized to showcase the talents of youngsters.

Pranav sang melodious carnatic songs. He looked so confident, had a smile on his face and was singing at ease.

Tharini, granddaughter of Yashoda sang two beautiful Hindustani songs. She has an amazing control over her voice.

Vivek played the guitar and mesmerized the audience with his own composition. Vivek, take a bow 'cause you reminded me of Eagles and Bryan Adams.

The program ended with a vote of thanks. All the family members were seen enjoying eating the scrumptious meal and talking in small groups. This event brought back the memories from past. What a way to remember our past.

I would like to personally thank Prasad for planning and Mohan for compeering the event.
